I’ve finally remembered to bring my camera with me to the hospice so I can share some pictures. Things are still going pretty well here – my days include a nice balance of hanging with the kids and caring for/chatting with the adults. There have been a few patients discharged and also a few new arrivals since I’ve been here, so it seems the beds are always full. I’m also learning a lot from the staff (and sometimes feeling like their social worker, listening to their problems...) and they’re a really nice group. I’m always impressed by the work ethic of the staff because most of them are volunteers, and they work long hours. The day shifts are 10 hours and the night shifts are 14 hours. I know I’m a volunteer here, too, but I’m not sure I could do this permanently without pay! The hospice is lucky to have them.
It takes a long time to upload photos here, so I’ll put on as many as I can at this time! Here is the front of the hospice, the children's centre (separate building across from the main building), one of the patients' rooms, the baby room, the hospice backyard, and some of my new friends :)
Thanks again for all of your support. I’ve really appreciated the encouraging comments and emails I’ve received from those keeping up with my updates so thank you, it means a lot to me to know I’m not forgotten at home! :)
